A Grim Fandango
"You are dead," he began. "You have the right to remain dead unless you have sold your soul to a lesser god for a chance at reincarnation. Anything you did while living can and will be used against you while judging your soul..."
Thanatos has finally met the woman of his dreams - and she's dead.
In order to stay relevant in the modern world, the Gods are selling their services to mortals. Thanatos' skills are highly marketable and many of the other Gods are jealous of his success. When Thanatos slams the door on a business proposition from his brother Hypnos, Ares is only too happy to join in a plot with him to put the god of death in his place.
Meanwhile, Imogen - a human journalist - is trying to track down the source of a vicious drug war that has taken hold of Athens. She meets with Lono, a drug dealer, and falls prey to his trickery. When Thanatos is forced to come collect her soul, he suddenly realizes that the woman of his dreams is real and has been murdered.
Thanatos brings her back to life and escapes with her to his hourglass room, a place outside of time. He hopes to hide her there while he deals with the other Gods. Unfortunately, she is captured by Hypnos and used against Thanatos in a battle of wits, greed and morals.
Thanatos faces a tough choice at the end of the story; save the woman he loves or face the full force of the Furies, the Fates' enforcers. Thanatos realizes he can't mix business with pleasure and a decision is made by the gleam of a scythe.
